STUDENTS:
 
Q: When will my current ID card no longer work?
A: The new ID cards will be effective for use on May 28, 2006. On that date, you must begin to use your new ID card; your current card will no longer work for access privileges or Terrapin Express.
 
Q: What if I lose my new ID before May 28th?
A: Come back to the Mitchell Building counter after May 28th and we will replace your ID. There will be a charge of $20 for the replacement. If the card was stolen and you bring a police report, then it will be replaced free of charge.
 
Q: If I lose my current ID before May 28th, can I use the new ID instead?
A: If you lose your current ID you can have it replaced in the Mitchell Building for a fee. The new ID will not be effective until after May 28th. If you need door-access or time & attendance card swiping then you need to get a replacement of your current card.
 
Q: When I get my new card, what should I do with my old card?
A: You will need to hold on to your current ID card and use it until May 27, 2006. The switch over to the new ID card will take place on May 28, 2006, which is when you must begin to use your new ID card. When you start using your new ID card, it is important that you destroy your old ID as it is encoded with your personal information.
 
Q: What if I am unable to pick up my new ID card at the designated time and location?
A: Beginning on September 5th, 2006, students can pick up their new card at the Registrar's service counter on the first floor of the Mitchell Building between 8:00am and 4:30pm.
 
Q: Will I need to reactivate my Terrapin Express account on my new ID card?
A: No, your Terrapin Express account information will be automatically transferred to your new ID.
 
Q: Will I need to get my photo retaken for the new ID cards?
A: No, students will not need to have their photos retaken.
 
Q: When and where do I go to pick up my new ID card?
A: All Undergraduate and Graduate students can pick up their new cards beginning August 26, 2006 through September 1, 2006 at the first floor of the Armory between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
 
Q: Will I need to show any identification to pick up my new ID card?
A: Yes, you will be required to show a picture ID (driver's license or current ID card) in order to receive your new ID card.
 
Q: I am not currently registered for Fall 2006, will I still get a new ID card?
A: You need be a registered student in order to get your new ID card. Upon registration Fall 2006, you can obtain your new ID card.
 
Q: The new ID card has my UID printed on it. Could someone gain access to my personal information?
A: Your personal information is safeguarded the same way as it has been. Services pertaining to your personal information should always require positive physical identification. Electronic services will require use of Directory ID and Directory Password or UID and Password. Your ID card and password should be safeguarded so that unauthorized use is prevented.

A: Yes. All privileges on your current ID will be transferred to your new ID card automatically.
 
Q: I am a retiree of the University of Maryland and will need a new ID card. How do I obtain a new one?
A: Authorization for a retiree ID card is granted by the retiree's department. You will need to go to your department that you retired from and have them enter your information into the PHR system as a retiree. Once this is entered and approved by the department, the card is available for pick up the next business day. You will need to contact your department for further information regarding this process.
 
Q: When and where do I go to pick up my new ID card?
A: The new ID cards will be sent directly to each department like the way paychecks are disbursed. For Employees hired before March 18, 2006, IDs will be distributed on May, 5, 2006. The new ID cards will be sent to the department where you pick up your pay check. For employees hired between March 18 - May 16 2006, IDs will be distributed on May 19, 2006 in the same fashion.
